The Australian Baha’i Community’s educational programs are offered informally at homes, as well as formally through dedicated facilities known a Baha’i Centres of Learning. These programs can include courses of short duration as well as residential courses held at facilities established specifically for this purpose. The South Australian Baha’i Centre of Learning is one such non-residential facility.
The courses offered by the Australian Baha’i community include:
-
- Ruhi institute: children’s spiritual education (ages 5-11)
- Ruhi institute: Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program (ages 11-15)
- Ruhi institute: main sequence of courses (ages 15+)
- Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity: seminars for tertiary students and graduates
The Ruhi training institute programs are offered both formally and informally, while the seminars hosted by the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity are only offered formally in residential settings.
The Baha’i Centres for Learning also host the administration of these courses, which includes the ongoing support and training of facilitators and coordinators.
The Australian Baha’i Community
The Baha’i Faith is a world religion founded by Bahá’u’lláh nearly 200 years ago. As part of a global community, its guiding principles include the oneness of humanity, the equality of women and men, the harmony of religion and science as well as the elimination of all forms of prejudice. Its aim is to break down barriers of race, culture, and nationality, to bring about an interconnected and interdependent society who share universal values. Alongside its community building efforts, the Baha’i Faith works with other likeminded people and organisations to bring about positive social change.
Within the last 100 years, Baha’is in Australia have worked alongside other Australians from all walks of life, learning how to contribute to the advancement of Australian society, as well as learning how to contribute to improving the communities and neighbourhoods in which they live in. As part of recognising these endeavours to empower the Australian community, the Prime Minister of Australia, alongside other national leaders, celebrated the centenary of the Faith with the Australian Baha’i community in 2020.
